OTTO JACOB
Otto Jakob – Lighting planning & showcase design for TEFAF 2013
Fascinating new artworks and "TURBINES," named one of the 100 most important pieces of jewelry of the 20th century by Vivienne Becker
For the presentation of Otto Jakob's extraordinary jewelry at TEFAF 2013 – one of the world's most important fairs for art, antiques and jewelry in Maastricht – Fischer & Partner developed a completely new lighting and display concept.
Otto Jakob is one of the most renowned jewelry artists of our time. His work combines craftsmanship from the Stone Age to the present day – in pieces of unique precision, symbolic power, and beauty.
Until this project, it was impossible to demonstrate the effect of his jewelry indoors under realistic lighting conditions. Displaying it under artificial light distorted colors, depth, and reflection.
Otto Jakob was forced to present his works in the open air in order to make the “true image” of his jewelry tangible.
For TEFAF 2013, Fischer & Partner implemented a showcase-integrated lighting system that replicates the entire spectrum of sunlight—pixel-free, color-neutral, and shadow-free. This made it possible for the first time to display the works indoors exactly as they appear in natural light.
The display case system has been extremely reduced in design:– The display cases are flush with the wall– The glass panes lie on the wall like frameless picture supports– An invisible locking system prevents any technical distraction– The interior of the display cases has no corners, which dissolves the spatial orientation
The jewelry appears as if detached in the room – a star in the light.
The result is not a classical presentation, but a silent, highly precise stage. The space disappears. The technology becomes invisible. What remains is the work of art – in its pure, perfect appearance.
Fischer & Partner not only developed light here – but also the possibility of making true beauty visible.
